ENA YAMAGUCHI
​Dance Artist

Ena started classical ballet at Hanayama Ballet School in Kyoto at the age of 4. At 15, she moved from Japan to England to begin professional training at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. During her training, she gained RAD(Adv2, Adv1 and Intermediate)and Cecchetti (Adv1 and Intermediate). She also received her Trinity National Diploma in Dance attaining the highest level awarded by the school as well as winning the schools 1st prize in the Contemporary Cup and runner up in the Ballet Cup.

 

After graduating she worked with Chrysalis London under the direction of Jodie Blemings touring the UK with shows including Lilith, Rise and performing for The London Fashion Week. During her time with the company, she also toured with Ballet Classique de Paris for their production of The Nutcracker performing the principal role of Clara.  

 

In 2018, She had her West End debut performing in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The King and I directed by Bartlett Sher as Eliza and toured internationally for two years in countries such as Switzerland, the UK and Japan.    

 

During the pandemic, she founded Dancers Network JP with fellow Japanese artists Satoko Fukuda and Hinako Taira and Co-produced INFINITY 2020 and dance workshop events Go Beyond Yourself.    

 

After returning to the UK in 2021 Ena worked with FUBUNATION for the Light Night Festival in Leeds and was a part of a mass performance with local communities at Rochester Castle, directed by Nancy Hirst. She worked with Corey Baker Dance for Leaders of a New Regime (Lorde and Nowness) which was created for the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow as a part of The Generation Restoration Film Festival, produced by UNEP.    

 

So far in 2022, Ena toured the piece Overflow by Alexander Whitley Dance, following this performing as part of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony and then performed No Time Like The Present choreographed by Zhongjing Fang (ABT).   

 

Ena also worked with a variety of companies including Holly Noble Dance, Keneish Dance, Sol Dans Company and Hinged Dance Co and performed for choreographers and directors such as Melody Squire, Renako Mcdonald, Taira Foo, Theresa Vitinius. She has also appeared in music videos for Becky Hill, Dua Lipa, Kimberly Walker and Boy Better Know and several large-scale video productions including 118 118 Money(ITV4), Levi’s (global advertisement) and Pineapple Studio in past years.  

 

As a teacher, she has lead classes at Pineapple Studio as Sol Dans company and at Berkshire County Dance Company Youth (BCDCY). She also has been a guest teacher at BU-TO-O-KAI since 2018 and worked as an assistant for Jodie Blemings for the Tring graduate company, Encore Dance Company.  

 

Currently she is working on an international dance project which makes a channel between Japan and The UK dance scene with Kai Tomioka and Harlan Rust supported by The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation. She continues to work as an international dance artist and sharing joy and happiness through dance.
